Playing Catch Up

August 29, 2010

So, my life has been pretty much non-stop for the past 7 days. Do you ever just have one of those weeks turned months when you just can’t catch a break?

Senior year is going to be well….busy, to say the least. I’ve been doing a lot of reevaluating lately and I realize that I can’t do everything. I wish I could, but I am only one person and I’m afraid if I stretch myself too thin, then I won’t be doing anything well. I’ve seen this happen to people as all the craziness of being a senior in college rolls around, people actually with less on their plates than I have on mine. So, I have decided that “no thank you” will just have to become my friend for a little while.

I am taking my senior seminar professor’s advice and making a priorities list. The list will be comprised of all the things I have to/want to do this semester and then I am going to assign them a number and print them and hang them on my door. Or, perhaps buy one of those cute little dry erase boards that you put on your dorm door.

As a result of all this, I am going to try to commit to outfit blogging twice a week. Also, as things pick back up I know I am going to have plenty to talk about so hopefully my writing will be more interesting as well.

Until next week….

In Session

August 22, 2010

Schooooooool’s back! I don’t know how I feel about that. Happy, I think. I actually really like school most of the time, even though I am going to be insanely busy this semester! 18 credit hours at the moment……..Let’s see…..Interning at Ch 4, Station Manager of TDC, Theatre/APO stuff, Senior Seminar, totally hard Math class, plus my other courses, and that little thing they used to call…oh yeah a life!

One thing that is not exciting is the heat! Florida is down to about 85 degrees at the moment due to a rainstorm but this afternoon was a scorcher! This outfit was hardly weather appropriate but I just love layering so much! Living in Florida is such a sartorial thorn in my side some times!

Until tomorrow…..

Vibrancy

August 15, 2010

Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like right now if I would’ve taken the easy way out. I wonder where I’d be and with who if I would’ve just been content with where I was in life. If I could have neutralized the dreams burning inside of me threatening my placation and told all my aspirations to shut their hopeful mouths, does that mean I’d be happy? If I could have chosen the one good thing and rode it all the way to the end of this ride called life, would joy be my constant companion? Is that how one achieves bliss? Is that the way to get your happy ending? Choose one.

No.

No.

No. I won’t settle for partial happiness. I won’t contend with a piece of a dream.

No.

No.

No. It’s not in me to settle and I won’t do it. What do I want?

 I want it all.

Happiness and love and joy and success and surprise and passion and zeal all wrapped up into one and I will not stop until I have IT.

Until I have it all.

Yes.

Yes.

Okay, I am really trying to be good about taking photos all the time now, so I went crazy last night! I went to dinner at California Pizza Kitchen with one of my best friends, Sara and then to the new XXI (Forever 21) at town center.

After that, we went to Dave & Buster’s as some of her friends from her job at Juicy Couture were meeting there and celebrating the leave of some co-workers, Sara being one of them! (Congrats to Sara on her new internship and job!! J

We were totally overdressed for D&B, but were seriously acting like kids and having so much fun the whole time! We must have spent like 30 minutes in the photo booth taking crazy photos. Fun fun fun….

Alas, I am heading to campus for the first time today since summer to meet with my professor! I am excited to start school again the week after next….let’s get this show on the road!

Until tomorrow…..

To anyone who reads this blog, I am so sorry! I am finally back home in Jacksonville and am settling back in.

As much as I loved Seattle, I am glad to be home. There’s something about being surrounded by everyone you love that makes a place better than it is all by itself.

We're a little overexposed...:)

I am going to try to keep outfit posting but it’s hard to get the photos taken and it’s hard to blog every night when I am trying to get everything accomplished before school!

I posted some photos of my dinner with my family the other night. Until next time….

P.S. Aren't my nephews adorable???

Welcome to Miami...

August 7, 2010

We went to South Beach today to see the sights! It was so....well... South Beach. Everyone was walking around half naked, hairless, and in shape. But, the town is so glamorous! Honestly, Miami would not be a bad place to end up.

There were palm trees galore and everyone is really tan, so I guess I stand out in that way.. :) But, it is truly beautiful here and I can see why people rave about Miami beach now. But, wow, the real estate on the water is some of the most expensive in the world. It was an awesome sight

Hot Hot Heat

August 6, 2010

You will notice this is the inaugural post of the From Here to There series. Jaded in Emerald City will obviously be retiring now since I am back in Florida for my senior year of college. Honestly, this name From Here to There came to me just now and seemed an appropriate title for a blog about this time in my life. I could’ve thought of something corny to call it about the sun or the beach, but that’s just so not me at all. Jaded In Emerald City, while still emphasizing the pseudonym of the city I was in this summer, also said a little something about my adventure there. It’s not really about the place so much, but more about how the physical place I am residing in affects the place I am in my life. From Here to There is just so thoughtfully provocative to me personally in that it begs the question, “Here to Where?” I have no idea! The pure kinetic potential is abundant for the moment. That’s what is so great about it. J Of course, the name is subject to change because I am very indecisive and if I think of something better I’ll change it. But, I just wanted to give you guys the idea behind the name.

In other news….I am thoroughly exhausted at this point. I dragged all of my possessions collected in Seattle through SEA-TAC and back to Jacksonville and left the very next day (without even unpacking) for Ft. Lauderdale, where I am now sitting in the Hyatt writing this.

I decided I may as well live up the rest of my summer while I still can because school will be in session in just a few days it seems! I actually love being back in Florida, believe it or not. The humidity and the blistering sun and the smells are just home to me. It seems sort of right, which makes me question everything now…great…

Anyway, the reason I am in Ft Lauderdale is because my brother is attending his last class in graduate school at NOVA Southeastern college this weekend before he gets his diploma and my Dad and I tagged along and are hanging out here. Tomorrow we are considering driving down to Biscayne Bay and South Beach to see Miami. As long as I’ve lived in Florida, I’ve actually never been there so I am really excited and hopefully I’ll get some great photos as well!

Until tomorrow….

P.S. NOVA’s library is one of the largest in the state. We went in today and saw work from this great mixed media artist! His name was Peter Max and I posted some of it below. It was amazing!

Simplicity is the Key

August 1, 2010

I didn’t get too frilled up today, because I decided that I wanted to show you guys the walking trail in Ravenna Park that I have been talking about. It is such a beautiful area and I wanted to take some photos in it before I left.

Ravenna woods are a great little respite from the city and it is just so gorgeous, I can’t believe it’s a 10 minute walk from my house.  Also, Cowen Park is at the foot of the trail and makes for a great little playground and photo spot. You’re never too old to play on the merry go round! J

While Our Blood’s Still Young..

July 31, 2010

I can’t believe the summer is over and I’m leaving Seattle. It feels like the last 3 months have been a whirlwind. I found out that I was moving here, then I did, and now it’s over? That was so fast.

This opportunity could not have come at a better time in my life. It’s exactly what I needed to start being me again; something I had lost sight of before I left. Sometimes, when you hold on to something so tight, it can just suck all the life right out of you so you have no energy for anything or anyone else. Rearranging that energy and focusing it on my goals turned out to be a much healthier and more enjoyable alternative. J

I think I was wrapped up in so many old pieces of my life that I forgot the reason why they were old in the first place. I lost sight of the catalyst of all the confusion to begin with. My life has been headed in one direction for a while and now the inevitable is taking its course. Seattle was the ultimate resuscitation of my dreams turning into reality, and a reminder that I really was willing to sacrifice to make those dreams come true and I shouldn’t feel bad about that.

I feel like I’m ready for all new everything now. Moving across the country really helped me realize what relationships are important in that if something is barely hanging on when you are in its presence, you’ll be much happier if you just let it go. This has been true in several aspects of my life this summer.

I am really glad to see my family and friends again, though and I can’t wait to start my senior year of college. Not only because it is going to be crazy busy yet amazing, but also because I just want to start living my life.

Until tomorrow..

P.S. I’ll try to get my outfit posts up in a couple days when I go to the airport. Pretty much all my stuff is packed right now.. L
